The Food You Eat

Hunting is No Sport

Sport hunting is a disgrace, and calling it sport is ridiculous. Animals killed for the prize of an animal trophy, usually the skin or mounted head of the animal, or the thrill of the kill, shows the pitiful cowardice and depth of ignorance some humans have fallen to. Sneaking up on unsuspecting animals with high powered weapons is gutless. That it can be done legally in a few places, such as game reserves, and at certain times of the year, shows irresponsibility on the part of governments and the sorry state of our elected officials. Illegal hunting grows out of the ridiculous allowance of legal hunting, and sanctioning some hunting as legal only encourages this. Hunting is cruel and unnecessary, just one of thousands of cruel and unnecessary practices perpetrated on animals in our society. An all out war on animals on this planet has been underway for a long, long time, and shows a selfishness that is not coherent with unity, love, or harmony. An advanced society would ban hunting, and the many other abuses humans inflict on animals, but this society is barbaric, arrogant, lost, living in separation consciousness, separate from the beauty and appreciation of life. All for a pelt to put on the floor, for a head on a wall, a chicken leg on a plate, a coat to wear, some cosmetics to cover up the dead soul inside. Vain, arrogant, greedy, weak, selfish, and totally lost, humans have sunk to a low level with their all out war on animals and have reached rock bottom. What's next? Will they blow themselves to kingdom come with their thousands of nuclear warheads?

International Polar Bear Day

Today is International Polar Bear Day and around the world, zoos, educational institutions, and wildlife advocates are celebrating one of the most magnificent animals to still walk our earth. A lot of the focus centers on climate change and rightly so: the rapidly warming Arctic is the single-greatest threat to polar bears. But climate change isn’t the only threat facing polar bears. They are also threatened by unsustainable commercial hunting in Canada, fueled by growing demand for polar bear parts. Factory farming contributes more to global warming than Al Gore would have you think, that is the real inconvenient truth, if giving up your dairy, meat and eggs is perceived as inconvenient to you. Help a polar bear, go vegan.

Benefits of Coconut Milk

Benefits of coconut milk Higher in calcium than regular milk and almond milk. Nutrient Rich : Coconut milk is rich in a wide range of minerals and vitamins. It contains iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, and also the following important vitamins: C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6. Coconut milk is also a good source of protein. Boost immune system : Half the medium-chain fatty acids in coconut milk are composed of lauric acid, which is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal thus strengthening the immune system. Weight Loss : The saturated fat in coconut is made up of short-chain and medium-chain fatty acids which the body quickly turns into energy instead of storing as fat. Therefore, even though it’s high in saturated fat, coconut can aid in weight loss. No wonder it’s the number one recommended milk for protein shakes. It is also said to boost metabolism.Coconut milk makes you feel full very quickly because of high concentrations of dietary fiber. Relaxes muscles and nerves: Rich in magnesium which can help relive and ease cramps, muscle pulls and muscle soreness. Aids in Digestion : Coconut milk contains beneficial substances that allow the stomach to digest food properly. Due to the high content of lauric acid, coconut milk is anti-bacterial and it kills off bad bacteria in the stomach that can cause you to not digest food properly. So adding coconut milk to your diet will help with digestion. Dairy Free, Nut Free and Vegan : Coconut milk is a dairy-free alternative for those who are lactose intolerant or allergic to nuts. This vegan drink is also soy-free and gluten-free.

Killed in the Billions

Sharks kill 5 people a year. Elephants and tigers kill 100 a year. There are 2,400 human executions a year. Illegal drugs kill 22,000 a year. There are 1,200,000 deaths a year due to road accidents. There are literally billions of animals killed a year, mostly by factory farming, and that doesn't even include the trillions of fish killed yearly. Above All ....Be Kind

Ahimsa

Ahimsa (Sanskrit) is a term meaning to do no harm (literally: the avoidance of violence). The word is derived from the Sanskrit root hiṃs – to strike; hiṃsā is injury or harm, a-hiṃsā is the opposite of this, i.e. non harming or nonviolence. It is an important tenet of some Indian religions (Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism). Ahimsa means kindness and non-violence towards all living things including animals; it respects living beings as a unity, the belief that all living things are connected. Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi strongly believed in this principle. Avoidance of verbal and physical violence is also a part of this principle, although ahimsa recognizes self-defense when necessary, as a sign of a strong spirit. It is closely connected with the notion that all kinds of violence entail negative karmic consequences.

Store bought coffee cream substitute I like

If you don't have time to make vegan substitute cream for you coffee, I found a good one yesterday. So Delicious brand coconut milk, in the small carton that looks like a half and half carton, tasted great in my organic fair trade coffee this morning. It is cheaper to make your own substitutes, and you can play around with them, I posted all those recipe's just to give ideas, but if you are busy, in a rush, and in need, this So Delicious is a good choice. There is no strong taste or sweet taste, so the coffee flavour is the predominate one but it still has a creamy look. The vegan diet, lifestyle does not have to be hard, its mostly about finding substitutes for what you were use to and you are not harming the animals or exploiting them. Drink your coffee guilt free and empowered. I just love love love coffee, grinding the beans from scratch, so a good creamer is a must. Wonder what other great new products and ways of preparing food are waiting to be discovered. I heard the Notzella Cheese, made by an Australian company, is great tasting and cheesy tasting.

Local Family Tells the Benefits of Going Vegan:

'via Blog this' In this ABC news item, according to a recent Harris Interactive Study, the number of vegans in the U.S. has doubled since 2009 to 2.5 percent, a trend that, if it continues, will put 80 percent of America as vegans by 2021. And this change makes sense. A recent study conducted by the National Institute of Health reported that the average vegan is 30 pounds lighter than their meat-eating counterparts, and will live almost a decade longer.

A Comprehensive Analysis of the Humane Farming Myth

A Comprehensive Analysis of the Humane Farming Myth:

'via Blog this'

Life or Death

The majority of humans on this planet appear to have a death wish, even unconsciously. This is not surprising as they consume death regularly, supporting the slaughter of billions of sentient life forms every single day, mostly by eating. The universe on the other hand has an imperative to live, to evolve, to develop more complexity. It is principally an ordering force, for life. The death force moves in the other direction, toward entropy. It does not sustain the system it is a part of, therefore entropy is its natural direction. If we look around at our world today we can see much activity that opposes the life force, leading to a breakdown of the system. A ‘self above all’ mentality that destroys, exploits and robs life, rather than a ‘self within all’ mentality that encourages and has reverence for life. Disconnection is a word that comes to mind. Disconnection from other sentient life forms, from love, compassion, spirit, from the ugly truth of mans war on nature, animals, themselves. In this fearful state enemies are everywhere. Everything is open to exploitation. Disconnected from the ordering force of life leads in the direction of the death force, which is chaos, imbalance and disharmony. Entropy is like a spiral with a singlar solitary dot at one end, while the life force is the ever widening circles of new creation at the other end, expanding outward. If all of creation in the universe moved in the direction of the death force, there would be nothing left. The ordering force is one of preservation and health. It is opposite the death force. The majority of humans have not been a responsible stewart of this planet or its inhabitants, in fact they have striven to dominate other life forms putting themselves ahead or above them instead of living in balance and harmony with them. In the exploitation of the natural world, the earth and the fishes, animals, forests, etc, humanity is dancing with the death force. Wonder how long the music, they don't want to face, is going to play for, before the ordering force sweeps the dust of a forgotten madness far away?

Global Day Of Action For Dolphins

Meat-eating societies are the main cause of world hunger because they feed a disproportionate percentage of the world's crops to 60 billion land animals annually killed by the meat, dairy and egg industries worldwide, and tens of billions of marine animals... instead of the 6.5 billion people on the planet. One acre of land can yield 30,000 pounds of carrots, 40,000 pounds of potatoes or 50,000 pounds of tomatoes. However, one acre of land can yield only 250 pounds of meat. Why? Because depending on the animal in question, it takes from three to twenty pounds of vegetable protein to create just one pound of animal protein.

Book Review: “The End of Diabetes” by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. (BONUS: GIVEAWAY! AND FREE RECIPES!) | Our Hen House: "Dr. Fuhrman does not ask you to take this on faith. For skeptics, he goes into great detail on why a high-protein diet including animal products is dangerous, and cites research that for every 5% of calories consumed from animal protein, the risk of diabetes increases by 30%. Another cited research example shows that of the more than 60,000 men and women studied, those following a vegan diet had diabetes prevalence that was only one-third of non-vegetarians. Dr. Fuhrman also addresses myths that fish and eggs are healthy components of a disease-preventing diet, and emphasizes the need for the inclusion of healthy fats from nuts and seeds."

So Much Concern About The Economy, What About The Ecology

So much talk and concern over the economy since 2008, with the unravelling of our fiat monetary system. The economist talk about things getting better in twenty years. It may well happen but the thing that will take down the global economy is the state of the Earths ecology. That you cannot fix with bail outs or austerity measures. Global warming is not being faced as a major concern and the finger pointing anywhere other than factory farming is just delaying and hiding the critical truth of this dire situation. When the human race realizes their civilization is at stake then perhaps they will act and they won't care much about the economy, what has real value will not be money. Our world faces a potential of rising oceans, extreme weather, global famine, war, the breakdown of society, all because we refuse to address the real issues. A society that can't feed itself anymore will react in anger. A society that continues to live in unsustainable ways walks on thin ice. Engaging in destructively competitive behaviours will eventually harm everyone and everything, as the perfect storm approaches. Forget about the economy getting better in the future, the real threat is to the Earths ecology. In their blind pursuit of their own survival at any cost, humans have placed themselves in competition with everything else on this planet, animals, trees, fish, they have robbed, raped and pillaged the very planet they live on and depend on. The human race have declared war on the animals and natural world. They will lose this war. This is the balancing of an intelligent energy field, natural law, divine providence, karma, whatever label you want to give it, there is reciprocity here. You get what you give. You are what you eat. As within, so without. Justice, mercy, balance. The whole of the system is patient, but there is a point where the whole does not tolerate any rogue parasite, sweeping the slate clean, so new healthy growth can spring up in its place. The old paradigm is dying, the dead cells must be cast off. It's the wheat and the tares. The meek and the arrogant. Its the Alpha and the Omega. It will be as if the Earth rebelling against a humanity that chooses to remain in denial and in the dark. It's called mercy.

There are some people now trying to get some bad publicity out about coconut products, since coconut made its revival on the scene from being almost wiped out at one time, because of false information, and the sales are booming. I have been using coconut oil and using other coconut products, like Coconut Bliss desert (see their take on the coconut in their products below and they recommend the same site I do) and have researched coconut and its benefits. This site, the coconut research page , is one of the better places to learn about coconut.

While its natural richness creates the creamy texture that people love, the fat in coconut milk is very different from other fats. High in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) identical to those in human breast milk, coconut milk has similar germ fighting and heart-protective properties.
Unlike other fats, MCTs do not need to be broken down and can be used immediately by the body as energy; it's the ideal fat for people who commonly have trouble digesting fat, such as those with a slow metabolism, colitis, and hypothyroidism. Coconut fat actually stimulates metabolism.
There is a lot of information on the web about the health benefits of coconut. We have found this site to be extremely thorough, and is a great place to start. Also no ads or pop-up windows.

Make your own delicious milk. This is very cost effective, it will save you a lot of money on buying all the other grocery story milks. This milk will only last you 2 to 3 days, but don't worry, its so delicious you will use it up fast. In cocoa, coffee, cereal, baking, etc. It does not have the processed taste the store bought alternative, soy/rice/almond milks do and it is highly nutritious.

The Test of a Civilization | Watch Now

The Test of a Civilization | Watch Now: "This video takes us through just a small observation of the surface of animal testing through a number of facilities including: University of California, Riverside, Boys Town Research Center, University of North Carolina, Iams Pet Food Laboratory, to name a few.

All these tests here could have been done on human cells removed from operations or donated in test tubes, which is cheaper, 100% accurate (whereas testing on animals is extremely inaccurate, for example anesthesia that we use to knock people out actually stimulates many animals including rats, cats and horses), can be examined more carefully and most of all is more ethical.

For more information on how you can end this needless suffering of animals visit http://www.stopanimaltests.com or for a full list of companies that do and don't test on animals, please visit http://www.carinconsumer.com/"

A Slaughter House, A Norm

Lets pause for a moment and look at these words, 'slaughter house'.  What feelings do they invoke in you? Who wants to get slaughtered in their house? Houses are homes and homes are places of protection, shelter, family. We as a society cannot claim ignorance with regard to the term slaughter houses, we know what they are. Society may not know the full extent of the misery, vile torture and abuse animals suffer at human hands even before they are slaughtered, but most have heard about slaughter houses. Why would we be OK with any form of slaughter. There is a huge disconnect with humans and a wall of denial, about the many ways we exploit, harm, violate, imprison, torture, and mistreat animals in every way shape and form. Humans have conducted extreme violence on animals of all kinds, farm, wild, domestic. Our lack of compassion is shocking. Our lack of concern very troubling. Our lack of action enabling. Our disinterest in facing what we are supporting aiding and abetting, and allowing to continue is a shame. A blight on human evolution. A disgrace. We have declared an all out war on animals in this modern culture. Even the term humane slaughter is an oxymoron. There is no such thing as humane slaughter. From the fur industry, to the entertainment industry, to the factory farms, to the experiments on animals that are unnecessary, to the assault on our ocean animals, wild animals, flying animals, the hunting, consuming, exploiting, experimenting, torturing, the arrogance of humans belief in superiority and extreme disconnection from the natural world has fostered the worst behaviour in humans and the greatest crime ever committed. Are you part of this assault, adding to the misery, the suffering, the injustice repeated every second on the animals who share this planet with you, unknowing or not? It's time to take your head out of the sand and stop with all the rationalizations and resistance to what you know is true. Slaughtering and abusing animals is wrong. Our entire modern culture is built around this practice of exploitation and teaches that it is as normal as breathing but it is abnormal and psychotic. There is a mix of humans on this planet. Some adhere to natural law and live in right relationship with nature, as one of many on this planet, having reverence for other life. The other humans contribute to the exploitation, some flippantly and often, and knowingly, even if they are not directly doing the slaughtering and torturing, some in denial but supporting the abuse all the same. Some going to churh on Sunday thinking they are following their gods commandments becasue they do not kill but they kill indirectly and often and keep various industries and buisness, in the business of the terrible war on animals. You are one or the other. No middle ground. It's time to label who is who. No abusing this animal but not that one. You are someone who condones the slaughter and gross mistreatment of animals because you contribute to this attack by what you wear, do, eat, act, ignore, or you are someone who abhors and opposes the disgraceful treatment of animal, by what you wear, do, eat, act and address, and have the courage to look at, no matter how painful. If more people looked at the real truth of this carnage and assult on animals, I think more people would stop supporting it. It is kept in the dark for a very good reason, the money. The things we have been taught to view as normal,  believing beyond feeling in daily violence towards our animal brothers and sisters, are the far opposite of decent, good, and spiritual, a mark of a desensitized human who lives in denial, and walks blindly along. Humans have lost their way and the signs are everywhere to confirm this, and getting worse every day. Humans talk a big talk, but its all hot air. Actions speak louder than words.

TEDxPearlRiver - Jill Robinson - Welfare of Animals - YouTube: "Jill Robinson was born and raised in England. Jill arrived in Hong Kong in 1985. Jill introduce the concept of "animal welfare through people welfare" and founded "Dr.Dog" in Hong Kong in 1991 -- the first animal-therapy programme of its kind in Asia. In 1993, a chance visit to a bear farm in China changed Jill's life. Exposing the plight of endangered Asiatic black bears cruelly farmed and milked for their bile, and learning how easily herbs and synthetics could replace bear bile, Jill embarked on a journey to end the practice of bear farming once and for all. In 1998, she founded. Animals Asia. Jill has been presented with an MBE award by Queen Elizabeth in recognition of her services to animal welfare in Asia (www.animalsasia.org). "

from a 100 vegan testimonials (veganism: a truth whose time has come)

Since I became vegan, I’ve noticed that human-caused suffering and exploitation are everywhere and are the intrinsic foundation our cultures, traditions, and economic and social systems are built on. And that our species is essentially a parasite that takes, uses, devours, and destroys until there is nothing left. I’ve noticed that all forms of oppression and exploitation and injustice are inextricably interwoven. I’ve noticed that no matter how much I thought I knew about our treatment of other animals, when I looked deeper, the reality was invariably and markedly worse than I could have ever imagined—beyond anyone’s worst nightmares. I’ve noticed that there is no reason to believe in some mythical place called “Hell” because for untold billions upon billions of irreplaceable individuals, hell is all they will ever know and it is we humans who have sentenced them to it, all so we can appease our taste buds, vanity, egos, and enrich our bank accounts. And, not surprisingly, I’ve noticed that I don’t like our species very much and that I firmly believe the planet and all Earthlings will be much better off after the inevitable demise of homo sapiens. I've noticed that "if you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention"; and that "once you know something, you can’t unknow it"; and that empathy is a very painful “gift;” and that true lasting happiness is a near impossibility in a world filled with and powered by misery, violence, and death. And I’ve noticed that despite the insurmountable odds and impossibility of getting humankind to fundamentally change its collective view and treatment of the Earth and other Earthlings, I know that my purpose in life is to attempt—in whatever small way I can—to do just that. - Monica Ball

The Intent of the Heart

Since I became vegan, which has been less than a year, I have heard so many reasons why people reject being vegan. Too many reasons to name here. There are even arguments by vegans about our biological form as humans and why we were not meant to be carnivores because of a variety of reasons, but to me, it always comes back to morality and ethics. Who cares about the shape of my teeth what about the intent of my heart. The fact is, in our distant past, throughout history, humans have been violent right up to today, even sacrificing other humans. Some of the blatant gratuitous violence practiced by humans long ago is still practiced today, in our so called modern culture. We see it in the entertainment industry so often we have become desensitised. As far as we have come technologically and even ethically we have not come nearly far enough. We make rationalizations and excuses for our violent behaviour and violence is seen everywhere in our modern culture. We live in a myth that we are so much more advanced than cultures of the past but we still exploit and deny animals compassion, equality and justice. Until we change we are no better than our ancestors who use to burn witches, whip up Inquisitions, and partake in holocausts. There is a holocaust going on right now every single second, perpetrated on animals of many kinds, wild and domestic, farmed and kept captive. If we continue to turn a blind eye and support this with our dollar, beliefs, actions and non-actions, natural law will check and balance the human predator right out of existence in this little sector of the galaxy. We have had long enough to play in the sand box and get it right, we don't have forever, time is ticking away.

Widening Our Circle Of Compassion

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

—Albert Einstein

Specialness is limiting. Concern for one part of creation, life, and not another is a product of separation consciousness. In this state of mind we are fragmented and incomplete, weak, and fearful. It is not our best choice. Deciding what animals deserve love and compassion and what animals are treated as product only diminishes us as caretakers and guardians.  Humans behave more like barbarians afraid and alone in their own chosen circles ripe for warring with anything outside that circle. Survival, greed, money and damaged ego, seem to drive these decisions to segregate, pick and choose what animal they can abuse more than others, with rationalizations galore. A dog eat dog world of fear, where there is no need to eat any dog, pig, cow, or chicken. Cold blooded hunters puffing up their egos, shark fin eating socialites flaunting their status of wealth, greedy murderers smashing seal skulls, imprisoning bears, shooting wolves for a thrill,  poisoning bees, selling sick downed animals in cellophane, and so many more atrocities. We live with a sick diseased human mind shedding blood and eating blood, prancing around out of control, marching itself to its own demise. A blind, stupid and arrogant human is an expiring one. It's just a matter of time. The complacency with regard to wide spread animal abuse and the excuses and reasoning continue to astound me. Reasoning like, lions eat meat, do you expect us to not eat meat. We are not lions, we can grow plants, our bodies are better off not being carnivores, there is much data to support this, also, we are killing our ecosystems and destroying our earth with agricultural factory farming and fishing the oceans dry and killing bees, and on and on and on.  But we can change, we can widen our circle of compassion, we can move towards wholeness, we can stop shitting in our own nest, we can do better. It's not too late.
